The idea of inserting comedy in tragedy as "Hogan’s Heroes" does is very justifiable and quite therapeutic. The documentary "The Last Laugh" (2016) about gallows humor, particularly that which targets the Holocaust, likewise makes the argument that Heinrich Mann made: “Whoever has cried enough, laughs.”

Joseph Heller's WWII novel "Catch-22" I think does an impressive job of mixing comedy and tragedy. All are important in reminding people during peace time about the horrors of war.
